Did you know that onions make us cry because of an enzyme called allinase? That enzyme is locked within the onion cells and when we cut them with a knife, they produce sulfanic acid. The sulfanic acid in return reacts with airborne particles and irritates our cornea. And that's the basic explanation as to why onions make us cry.
