The grossest yet truest fact about your body...

We shower daily to stay clean, to smell great- for ourselves, and so other don't judge us.. But this is going to change the way you view your body. National Geographic recently took a break from all of the animals out there, to focus on your belly button.

Professional Navel Gazers (That really is what they are called) say that your tiny belly button is like a rainforest! In fact they say you have more than 2,368 different kinds of bacteria. 60 people's belly buttons were "swabbed" to see what tales their tummies held- it should seem the results were pretty freaky.

It all started when some biology students from the university of North Carolina state sent out a card with a swab from colleagues belly buttons on it. This gave some the idea to get more people interested in science, and what better way than the ecosystem of your belly button!

Of the 60 belly buttons, they found 2,368 bacterial species, and of these 1,458 were completely new to science! It was nuts because most of the science writers found that 92% of the bacteria found were completely unique from person to person. One person actually found a kind of bacteria in his belly button that is only found in the soil of Japan!!

You can read all about their findings right here!
