Is he an idiot, or hero?

A tourist off of the coast of New zealand was surfing, when he noticed an island that he decided to investigate. After he got on the island and scoped it out- he realized there was nothing of importance there, then he noticed the giant crocodile.

By his account, every time he tried to leave the island the croc would block his path- AND IT WAS HUGE! 19.5 feet long..

He tried to signal passing boats with fire- but it was to no avail, until another man also went to investigate the island. He was saved and returned to the mainland.

Locals are calling him an idiot though saying this happens all the time, and tourists need to ask locals about their surroundings before investigating anything in croc infested waters.
