A typical old school Italian family will usually be very proud of their cuisine- and almost always have a "secret recipe" to their pasta sauce. Usually delicious, but not as old as it might seem. In reality, the first ever recorded recipe of pasta sauce is 1790 - after the first tomatoes were taken from North America.
Lagana- the probable ancestor of Lasagna, was first eaten in the 5th century. A cookbook from then records that a dough, layered with meat and lettuce juice was deep fried in oil.
