The middle east is a country where "what happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors.." However recently a lot of Arab countries have been enacting laws to protect women from domestic violence.
Recently in Saudi Arabia a man was sentenced to 20 lashes for hitting his wife. Apparently he says that he was joking around with her- and the wife even came forward to say she wanted to drop the charges, however prosecutors refused to drop the charges.
