A Malaysian man got $218 trillion phone bill!

In January 2006 Yahaya Wahab from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has disconnected his father’s phone line, because he had just died. Months later the phone company continued sending the bills for the same phone line. But the real surprise was the bill itself – 806,400,000,000,000.01 ringgit (around 218 TRILLION US dollars). The deadline for the payment was after 10 days.

Mr Wahab was prepared to fight the telecom giant: "If the company wants to seek legal action as mentioned in the letter, I'm ready to face it…. In fact, I can't wait to face it," he said. He was unsure whether the bill was a genuine mistake or whether his father’s phone line had been used illegally after his death.

Just a note – the U.S. National Debt is around $13.8 trillion. The extraordinary bill was in fact a mistake from Telekom Malaysia, because the Yahaya’s father left behind the small scale bill of 84 ringgit (around $23).
