Did you know that the most romantic city on the planet is also one of the destinations with the highest suicide rates – 17.5 per 1000 people! Apparently attempting suicide in France is a common thing, and even the government has taken steps to reduce suicides. Six foot high barriers were built around the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in order to prevent people from jumping and lower suicide rates.

In fact, jumping off the the 1,063 foot tall Eiffel Tower is the third most common French suicide method. Hanging and poisoning lead the chart.

One of the most curious cases is of a woman, who jumped off the famous “Iron Lady”, but instead of dying, sinstead for dying she landed on a car, which not only saved her life but also belonged to the man who later became her husband. She literally fell in love! It looks like Paris truly is the most romantic city on the planet!
