The Islamic republic’s intelligence agents once arrested over a dozen squirrels near the country’s borders. The agents claimed that the squirrels were carrying special spy gear and were serving as secret spies of the West countries. This information was reported by IRNA (the Iranian state-sponsored news agency) and later confirmed by the Iranian police commander Esmaeil Ahmadi-Moqadam.
The use of squirrels or other rodents for spying purposes have never been documented before.
