Some Ordinary Foods That Can Actually Kill Your Pet

Avocado

While tortilla chips and guacamole may be delicious, you should be very hesitant to share this treat with your pet, as avocados contain a chemical compound called persin, which can be potentially fatal to canines, whose digestive system isn’t as compatible.
In fact, there are several forms of fauna such as leaves, bark, and even certain fruits, and in some cases, a significant amount of persin can cause an allergic reaction in humans.
Tuna
While we all have to admit that tuna and cats fit like Tom and Jerry, feeding your feline friend a steady diet of tuna can be very dangerous. Due to its low vitamin count and packaging, this fishy can cause malnutrition and even mercury poisoning! Sometimes it’s best to adhere to old motto: Never order the fish.
Alchohol
As much fun as it may seem to video tape your pets drunk, you should really try to avoid that temptation, as it can cause poor coordination, vomiting, liver failure, and even death! After all, our furry friends just aren’t as large as people, meaning that the alchohol has fewer places to go.
Grapes
No matter how classic this treat is during the hot Summer months, you should really resist feeding grapes to your animals. Due to an unknown trait in most household animals, too many grapes can cause renal failure, or the inability to pass urine, which can cause the kidneys to fail, the bladder to burst, and cause a very painful death.
Onions
This stinky dish will make you cry in more than one way if you feed it to your cat.
Enzymes in onions have the ability to break down the red blood cells of felines, which causes anemia. It shouldn’t be too bad in small doses, but most pet owners aren’t cruel enough to give their critters breath that nasty.
(A note on this one, anemia can be considered a proper noun, since it’s a medical condition. However, because it was only used in the generic sense, rather than a specific strain of the condition, I opted for the common form.)
Milk
Yet another thing seperating dogs and cats is the lovable pooch’s digestive distaste for milk. While it may not seem to be the case, the lactose in dairy products can cause diarrhea, digestive troubles, allergic reactions, and horrible gas, and that is definitely not the kind of thing you want to wake up to on a Saturday!
Raw Dough
If you’re going to do some baking, make sure not to let your pet lick the spoon.
The raw foodstuff can cause a gas buildup in the digestive tract, and if you’re very unlucky, the yeast may ferment in their stomach, giving them a nasty case of alchohol poisoning. It may be best to finish the recipe before letting your animal sample the goods.

Chocolate
While it’s no secret that your dog can’t have chocolate, it’s not as well known that the rule applies to all pets. Chocolate contains a stimulant theobromide, a chemical similar to caffeine. This can speed up the heart rate dramatically, and in an animal with a healthy metabolism, can cause the heart to fail in excess amounts.
Sweets
It seems that Mother Nature just didn’t intend for pets to have a sweet tooth, because most candies and gum are just as bad as chocolate. Most treats contain an artificial sweetener called Xylitol. In their little bodies, this can cause a very unsafe jump in blood sugar levels, which can lead to seizures, liver failure, blindness, and worse.
Macadamia Nuts
This one doesn’t seem as obvious as others on this list, but macadamia nuts can be very harmful to animals, especially dogs. The nuts themselves can bring on a condition called Macadmia Nut Toxicosis, which is just as bad as it sounds. If you’re lucky, it can cause dizziness and vomiting, but the symptoms can get as bad as paralysis or death if larger amounts are consumed.
