In 2011 several sharks were found stranded in a lake on a golf course in Brisbane, Australia. The reason for their quite unusual new habitat was a flood that took place in the area where the golf course is situated and the sharks became stranded after the water receded. As bull sharks are known for their ability to survive in fresh as well as in brackish water, the lake happened to be not only a rescue spot for the sharks but also a place to start breeding.

The managers of the golf course have been quite happy with their new “tenants” as they have brought a lot of media attention to the place leading to lots of new visitors. The fins of the 10ft sharks have been spotted at corporate events and even at weddings held at the golf course which happened to be a thrill for the attendants. As sharks’ population has dropped increasingly over the last few years it’s wonderful to have several species serving as “ambassadors” to prove  that sharks are important for the environment, claim specialists.
